Red Raider Softball Outlasts Mizzou 6-5

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech softball team outlasted the Missouri tigers this afternoon in action at the Texas Tech Intramural Fields by a score of 6-5. The victory brings Tech to a record of 16-30 on the season. More importantly, the Red Raiders are now 5-6 in conference play and have moved into a tie for fourth place in league play.
Ashley Ready paced the Red Raiders with a pair of two-out RBI singles. Her first hit came in the fourth inning when she singled through the right side of the infield and scored Amanda Douglas from second base making the score 2-1. In the fifth inning with the score tied, Ready once again singled in a run from second base. This time it was Paula Workman scoring to make the score 3-2.
Paced by a pair of RBI doubles from Shauna Briggs and Paula Workman in the sixth, the Raiders extended the lead to 6-2 heading into the top of the seventh. Missouri wasn't ready to give up without a fight. The Tigers came back within a run after a three-run homer off the bat of catcher Amy Farmer made the score 6-5.
With two out in the top of the seventh and the go-ahead run at the plate, Amanda Renfro came on in relief of Dana Yocum and struck out Mizzou's Dara Throneburg to earn the save and end the game.
Texas Tech is back in action Monday when they play the Baylor Bears in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
