Texas Tech Softball Defeats Kansas 8-0

LAWRENCE, Kan - The Texas Tech Red Raiders defeated the Kansas Jayhawks 8-0 in softball action this afternoon at Jayhawk Field in Lawrence, Kan., to run their record to 13-27, 2-3 in the Big 12. It was the first Big 12 road game of the year for the Red Raiders. The Jayhawks fall to 21-22 on the year and 1-7 in the conference.
Tech took advantage of four Jayhawk errors to score the eight runs but also notched a season high 12 hits as a team in the shortened 6 inning game. The Red Raiders were led by Shauna Briggs who went 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored. Tech catcher Kristi Tunnell drove in three runs in a 2-for-3 hitting performance.
Amanda Renfro continued her dominating season, fanning seven Jayhawk batters and allowing only two hits in her five innings of work. Her record improves to 10-15. Dana Yocum came on in relief to retire the Kansas half of the batting order in the sixth inning.
The two teams meet again on Sunday at 1 p.m.
