LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech football team returned to the grind Thursday afternoon with a two and a half-hour practice after scrimmaging during the Wednesday session.
"It was a bit rugged today. You tend to be with bumps and bruises after scrimmaging," head coach Mike Leach said. "It was a good practice considering the context. Were we as sharp as yesterday? No. The thing is in practices down the road we will be able to work through the bumps and bruises."
After donning full pads for Wednesday's scrimmage, the Red Raiders returned to helmets, shoulder pads and shorts for this afternoon's practice.
Texas Tech has worked out seven times in the last six days and continues with a single practice tomorrow at 4 p.m. on the practice fields Southeast of Jones SBC Stadium. The next two-a-day is scheduled for Saturday at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Thursday's drills featured position and team groups in game situations. The offense also worked against the defense in light contact drills. Pass skeleton drills and rushing drills with skills players from both sides of the ball placed front line offensive and defensive players against one another.
Texas Tech opens the season in the Hispanic College Fund Classic on August 26 against New Mexico. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff in Jones SBC Stadium.
