LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach called the final two-a-day practice of the preseason "good all day" as the Red Raiders forged ahead with preparations for next week's season opener against New Mexico.
"We were good all day," Leach said. "We were better this morning, but had a good overall effort. We did a good job pushing through and getting our legs back.
"The defense had a good afternoon, while the offense had the best morning."
Both practices lasted around two-and-a-half hours on the grass practice fields southeast of Jones SBC Stadium. Both the Tech offense and defense worked on play schemes and used the latter half of each practice focusing on New Mexico's offensive and defensive looks.
Leach praised the entire team's work ethic and pointed out the play of the special teams.
"The special teams have been steady," Leach said. "They had a great afternoon. Especially kicking a 52-yard field goal to close practice."
The Red Raiders practice again Thu., Aug. 17, at 4 p.m. All practices are open to the public.
Texas Tech opens the season in the Hispanic College Fund Classic on Sat., Aug. 26 against New Mexico. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff in Jones SBC Stadium.
