LUBBOCK, Texas - Following Texas Tech's practice Saturday morning, the Red Raiders named team captains for the upcoming season. Seniors Devin Lemons, Kris Kocurek and Ricky Williams, along with sophomore quarterback Kliff Kingsbury, were selected by their peers.
"This is a great honor," Lemons said. "I came in as a freshman with half of these guys who are now seniors. It's a great honor to know they trust me enough to be one of this team's leaders."
The Red Raiders worked out for 2 ? hours on the grass practice fields east of the Athletic Training Center. The morning practice began with team drills, while much of the latter portion of the workout was dedicated to New Mexico play schemes.
Head coach Mike Leach was pleased with the practice, but said the team "needs to sprint to the finish line."
"We had a good practice today," head coach Mike Leach said. "The defensive scout team had a great workout. We were more consistent at the tail end of the team period, but the last half of practice could have been better."
The Red Raiders will take Sunday off, before resuming game-week workouts Mon., Aug. 21, at 8 p.m. Texas Tech practices are open to the public.
Texas Tech opens the season in the Transamerica Hispanic College Fund Classic on Sat., Aug. 26 against New Mexico. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff in Jones SBC Stadium.
