LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech's preparations for Saturday's football game against Utah State accelerated into high gear with a 2-? hour practice Tuesday afternoon, and to say the Red Raiders won't be ready is an understatement.
"We were very good today," head coach Mike Leach said. "Our effort picked up and the scout team did a great job giving us things to work on for Utah State.
"Our focus was better than it has been. That seemed to be the problem last week," Leach added. "We are definitely capable of doing better and it showed this afternoon."
Texas Tech is 1-0 after beginning the season with a 24-3 win over New Mexico in the Transamerica Hispanic College Fund Classic last weekend at Jones SBC Stadium. Saturday's game will serve as the season opener for Utah State.
Leach and his staff put the Red Raiders through their paces Tuesday on the grass practice fields east of the Athletic Training Center, working mainly on recognition of Utah State schemes against the scout teams. Brief pass skeleton and pass protection drills pitted the Red Raider offense and defense against one another.
