Texas Tech Cross Country Compete in Sundodger Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech cross country team had an impressive finish with the men in fourth place and the women closing in at third in the Sundodger Invitational hosted by the University of Washington in Seattle.
The men took fourth place in a nine-team, 8000-meter event with two harriers in the top 25. Senior Gezachw Yossef finished in third place with a personal season best of 24:17.91. Senior Boniface Ngundu had a 13th place finish with a time of 24:41.89. Other men placing in the 87-person event include: Scott Moore in 34th place (25:16.75), Nick Hulstrom in 43rd place (25:31.27), Joseph McCellon in 49th place (25:43.80), Dwayne Benoit in 56th place (26:14.28) and George Odom in 61st place (26:34.86).
The women finished in third place at the eight-team, 6000-meter event with four harriers in the top 25. Senior Leigh Daniel claimed eighth place with a time of 21:26.28. Katie Lyman, the much-heralded recruit from Cheyenne, Wyo., finished in 15th place with a time of 22:02.06.
Freshman Bridget Tidwell, from Crawford, Texas, kept pace and finished in 20th place, eight seconds behind Lyman with 22:15.60. Tracie Akerhielm, the freshman from Sulphur Springs, Texas, finished in 24th place with a time of 22:22.51. Other women placing in the 63-person event include: Melissa Ernst in 34th place (23:07.29), Shannon Spaulding in 38th place (23:11.86) and Jennifer Marable in 52nd place (24:02.10).
The team will head to Stillwater, Okla., on Sept. 30, to compete in the Cowboy Jamboree hosted by the Oklahoma State University.
