LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech freshman receiver Carlos Francis was named SBC Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week by a select panel of media covering Big 12 football.
Francis notched the laurels with a standout performance in the Red Raiders' 38-16 win over Utah State. The Forth Worth Native set a school freshman record with 234 yards on seven catches in only his second career game and was eight yards shy of breaking the Big 12 single-game receiving yardage record (241 yard by Donnie Hart against Texas in 1996). Francis also fell 18 yards short of breaking the Texas Tech receiving yardage record of 251 yards, set by Lloyd Hill in 1992.
He also averaged 33.4 yards per catch, shattering the previous school single-game record of 20.7 yards per catch Leonard Harris set against Houston in 1983.
After two games, Francis leads the team with 188.5 receiving yards per game, 29.6 yards per catch and 149 all-purpose yards per game.
