LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech baseball team will begin preparations for the 2001 season when the squad kicks-off fall practice on Saturday.
Head coach Larry Hays will welcome back 16 lettermen from last year's NCAA regional qualifying team and evaluate close to 37 prospective players over the course of fall workouts.
Texas Tech will begin practice on Saturday, Sept. 9 and will close out fall workouts with the annual Red-Black series beginning on Sept. 30. The Red-Black series will be played Sept. 30, Oct. 1-2, and Oct. 4-5 at Dan Law Field with midweek games beginning at 3 p.m. and weekend games listed as TBA.
"I am excited about the fall and look forward to seeing what the new guys can bring to the table," said head coach Larry Hays. "It will definitely be an interesting fall with us only having two full-time returning starters in Jason Rainey and Shaun Larkin. We are going to have to rebuild our outfield as well as the infield."
Texas Tech opens the 2001 campaign at home against Howard University in a four-game series January 26-28, 2001, before heading to Houston for the Enron Tournament at Enron Field Feb. 2-4.
