Red Raiders host Texas Tech Open This Saturday

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech cross country teams will be hosting the Texas Tech Open this Saturday, Oct. 6, at Mae Simmons Park. The men's 8K race will begin at 9 a.m., while the women's 5K run will take place at 9:45 a.m.

The top seven runners on both the men's and women's squad will sit out this week. Head coach Dave Smith is resting his top runners this week in order to gear up for next week's pre-national meet at Furman University in Greenville, S.C.

This week's race will allow other runners to make some strides for the Red Raider cross country teams.

"It gives our new people a chance to run and see what they can do," Smith said.

Smith also said that the personnel he has running at the Texas Tech Open has a chance to win both the men's and women's division despite being without their top runners.
