Texas Tech Places 19 on All-Conference Teams; Ties Oklahoma

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior RB Ricky Williams (Duncanville, Texas) headlines a list of 19 Red Raiders named to Big 12 Coach's all-conference teams, announced yesterday by the Big 12 office.
Tech tied with Oklahoma with 19 players named to the 2001 teams. Colorado and Nebraska each placed 16, while Kansas State and Texas followed with 15 and 14, respectively.
Williams was named to the first team for the second time in his career (1998). During the course of the season, he set the school record for career rushing attempts with 783 and established the single-season receptions record with 82. He currently ranks third all-time at Tech and in Big 12 history with 3,609 rushing yards and is third all-time at Tech with 34 career touchdowns. He leads the team in receiving and is the nation's second-leading receiver and top receiving running back.
QB Kliff Kingsbury (New Braunfels, Texas) earned second-team honors along with OL Rex Richards (Midland, Texas) on offense. DE Aaron Hunt (Denison, Texas), LB Lawrence Flugence (Klein, Texas) and FS Kevin Curtis (Lubbock, Texas) also were named to the second team on the defensive side.
Representing Tech on the third team is KR Ivory McCann (Houston, Texas) on offense and DT Rodney McKinney (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) on defense. Wes Welker (Oklahoma City, Okla.) was named as the punt returner on the third team.
Garnering honorable mention status is TE Mickey Peters (Weatherford, Texas), C Toby Cecil (Richardson, Texas), OL Matt Heider (Roswell, N.M.), WR Carlos Francis (Fort Worth, Texas), DT Clayton Harmon (Stephenville, Texas), LB Jonathan Hawkins (Wichita Falls, Texas), LB Mike Smith (Lubbock, Texas), SS Ryan Aycock (Lubbock, Texas), DB Joselio Hanson (Inglewood, Calif.) and FS Paul McClendon (Stamford, Texas).
