Track & Field News released its 2002 recruiting class rankings yesterday with the Texas Tech men's team ranking fourth in the nation and first in the Big 12.
Texas Tech track and field coach Wes Kittley knew that he had a special group of kids coming in next season, but was a bit surprised to know that the newest class was being touted so highly. "This is super," was the first thing that the third-year coach could get out of his mouth upon learning of the ranking. "I think that this season is going to be the turning point for the whole program and with the new group of kids coming next year I think that things could only get better," commented Kittley.
Michigan earned the top ranking followed by Indiana, Arkansas, Tech and Tennessee. Track and Field News also released its top 5 women's classes headed up by South Carolina. UCLA ranked second followed by Stanford, USC and North Carolina.
The indoor season starts at home in the ATC with the Texas Tech Open on Jan. 18-19 while the outdoor season starts on March 14th in College Station with the Texas A&M Combined Meet.
