Christmas In San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Texas Tech Football team was treated to a Christmas evening feast following the team's third practice of the week Tuesday. The Red Raiders enjoyed the nicest day of weather since arriving Sunday morning as sunny skies held temperatures in the mid-60s for its workout at Trinity University.
The biggest worry of the day came before the evening dinner as the players worked their way to the banquet hall. According to offensive lineman Rex Richards, the team consensus was that everyone needed to get to dinner before offensive lineman Matt Heider had the chance to fix his plate.
"Matt Heider is probably the biggest eater on the team," Richards said. "At breakfast, he gets just about everything on his plate - the sausage, the bacon, the pancakes, the eggs, the hash browns, anything that's edible. He mixes it all up and tops it off with a thick layer of maple syrup. Anytime you want to eat, you have to get there before Heider."
Although Heider doesn't disagree with the menu described by Richards, he does have reservations about the player with the biggest appetite.
"I actually think it's a close race between Rex, Lance (Williams) and myself," Heider added, referring to the three o-linemen. "I would probably say Lance, then Rex, then me. They blow me out of the water. You see, I'm trying to watch what I eat and lower my cholesterol."
Heider and the Red Raiders face the University of Iowa in the 2001 SYLVANIA Alamo Bowl Sat., Dec. 29, at 2:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
