Red Raiders Finalize Classic

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech track and field team hosted the Red Raider Classic this weekend at the Athletic Training Center on the Texas Tech campus. Saturday finalized the events in which Tech earned several spots in the top of each event.
In the final event of the day Tech took fourth place in the Men's 4X400 Meter Relay with a time of 3:19.46.
Scott Moore placed second in the Men's 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:39.85. Following behind Moore was teammate Nick Hulstrom who crossed the finish line in third place at 8:49.45.
In women's shot put Megan Schuessler took fourth place with a throw of 12.94m or 42'04".
Boniface Ndungu placed second in the 800-meter dash with a time of 1:54.98.
Sophomore Shannon Spaulding placed second in the Women's 800 meter run. Spaulding breezed through with a time of 2:14.31.
Men's 200-meter dash had the tight finish of the afternoon. Tech's Saidric William took third place with a time of 21.65. Finishing fourth for Tech was Reggie Hill with a time of 21.97.
In the women's 200-meter dash Monique Wright-Cruce placed first with a time of 24.72 that set the fifth best time for the 200-meter in indoor for Texas Tech. D'Andria Brigham of Tech placed second with a time of 24.98.
Rachelle Evans finished first in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 55.87. Melonie Barrow took fourth place with a time of 56.21.
The women's one mile run finals had four freshmen place in the top five. Katie Lyman and Tracie Akerhielm finished in the top two places with times of 4:59.81 and 5:02.20.
Senior Tami Zachary qualified provisionally for the NCAA Indoor Championships with a 55-meter preliminary time of 6.93. Fellow senior Reggie Hill also ran a qualifying time of 6.26, though the senior qualified previously with a 6.21.
In the women's 55-meter dash finals, freshman Vickeita Streeter came in second in section one with a time of 7.27, with fellow frosh Rachele' Stevenson taking fifth in section one. In section two, freshman Tiffany Green won with a time of 7.06, the fastest finals time in the 55 meters.
In the men's 55-meter dash finals, Hill and freshman Saidric Williams ran one-two in section two, finishing in 6.23 and 6.27, respectively.
Tech's Jeremy Wheeler finished fifth in the 55-meter hurdle finals with a time of 7.71, trailing Prairie View's Lewis Edmondson and three unattached runners. Candice Cole took fourth in the women's 55-meter hurdle finals in a time of 8.99.
The Red Raiders travel to Lincoln, Neb., next weekend to compete in the Big 12 Championships on the campus of the University of Nebraska.
