Major Upsets Not Enough To Knock Off Baylor

WACO, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team upset the No. 14 Baylor Bears in the No. 1 singles position and the No. 1 doubles position today at the Marrs McLean Tennis Courts in Waco, Texas, but could not muster enough for the overall match falling 6-1. Tech drops to 6-2, 2-2 in league play. Baylor extends its home-winning streak to 17 straight matches improving its record to 9-2, 3-0 in Big 12.
In doubles action, Tech's Irina Tereschenko and Beverly Dawson had the first major upset of the day defeating Katja Kovac and Vida Mulec, 8-5. The combo improves to 7-1 on the year, 3-1 in the Big 12. In the No. 3 position, Dana Giles and Stephanie Mueller fell in a close match to Alison Bradley and Monica Gonzalez, 9-7. Baylor won the doubles point by winning the No. 2 and No. 3 position.
Freshman Tereschenko won her second straight in the No. 1 position today for the second major upset of the day. Tereschenko defeated No. 26 Jahnavi Parekh in straight sets 7-6, 6-1, for her most impressive victory of the season thus far. She improves to 7-1, 3-1 in Big 12 action.
Tech fell in straight sets in remaining singles action.
The Red Raiders swing back into action Sunday, March 4, in Lubbock against conference opponent Colorado.
