LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech track and field team will participate in the Iowa State Invitational this weekend in Ames, Iowa, a meet with over 1,600 athletes and more than 40 teams competing.
Only 14 runners, nine women and five women, will travel to the event for Tech, as coach Kittley prepares the rest of the squad for next week's final home indoor meet, the Red Raider Classic.
Among those participating in this week's meet: Gezachw Yossef will run the mile for Tech, and will also be a part of the distance medley relay squad along with Dwayne Benoit, Chris Ramirez and Antonio Franklin.
Senior Leigh Daniel will participate in her first meet of the season, running the 5000 meters, while sophomore Shannon Spaulding will run in the 800 meters. The 4x400-meter relay team will also compete, composed of Ngozi Iwu, Melonie Barrow, Rachelle Evans and D'Andria Brigham.
Tech will also have its trio of women sprinters at this week's meet. Tami Zachary, Monique Wright-Cruse and Tiffany Green have finished in the top three in the 60m and 200m in all three events this season.
Zachary won both the 60 and 200m at last week's Texas Tech Open, and missed provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships by .03.
The entire Tech squad will run in next week's Red Raider Classic before traveling to Big 12 Championships in Lincoln, Neb., February 23-24.
