LONGHORNS HAVE WON LAST EIGHT, LEAD SERIES 54-50
Not only does Texas Tech have a current three-game losing streak to worry about, the Red Raiders also haven't beaten Texas in the last eight meetings. The last time a Texas Tech team knocked off the Longhorns was during the 1996-97 season. And the last time Tech won in Austin came a year earlier.
Texas leads the series 33-21 in Austin, while the Red Raiders are 28-15 on their home floor. Tech's longest win streak was 10 games from 1969-74.
Since the inception of the Big 12 Conference at the start of the 1996-97 season, Texas leads 9-1.
SCOUTING THE LONGHORNS
Darren Kelly leads Texas with 16.2 points per game, while Maurice Evans and Chris Owens follow with 16.0 and 14.0 points, respectively. Owens leads the team on the boards with 8.1 rebounds per game and Kelly leads with 3.1 assists per game.
Texas is shooting 41.4 percent from the field on the season. The Longhorns are holding the opposition to 38.8 percent from the field and 29.2 percent from beyond the three-point arc. Texas is hitting 34.4 percent from three and 64.8 percent from the foul line.
The Longhorns are averaging 71.6 points per game and hold a 5.8 point-per-game advantage over their opponents.
LATE TEXAS RUN PUSHES HORNS PAST RED RAIDERS IN AUSTIN
AUSTIN, Texas - Chris Owens scored 15 points and freshman James Thomas had nine points in a late second-half run to lead Texas to a 73-56 win over Texas Tech Tuesday night. Thomas, who picked up his fourth foul with about 10 minutes left, keyed an 11-4 run that allowed Texas to open up a 66-49 lead late in the game.
Texas (18-7, 7-4 Big 12) also got 14 points from Maurice Evans, 11 from Darren Kelly and 10 from Brian Boddicker. It was just the second time this season the Longhorns had five players score 10 or more.
The Longhorns also out-rebounded Texas Tech (8-13, 2-8) 42-24. Owens had a game-high nine boards.
Jayson Mitchell led Tech with 15 points. The Red Raiders have lost six in a row.
Owens, who had just seven points and one rebound in Saturday's loss to Oklahoma, topped both those marks early in the first half.
Owens scored seven of Texas' first 15 points before Boddicker's putback and 3-pointer on consecutive possessions gave the Longhorns a 20-15 lead.
Evans hit another 3-pointer and Kelly's two-handed dunk on a back-door feed from Chris Ogden put Texas up 31-21. Mitchell then hit consecutive 3's to pull the Red Raiders to within 34-28 at the half.
Tech stayed within six points for the first 10 minutes of the second half until Kelly hit a free throw and fed an alley-oop jam to Evans to make it 55-45.
Thomas then went on his scoring spree with a putback and two foul shots followed by a 3-point play that gave Texas a 17-point lead with 4:22 left.

The Longhorns are on a hot streak of late after knocking off Iowa State 94-78 and Missouri 76-61 in the their last two games. Texas is currently on a five-game winning streak, which began with a win over the Red Raiders on Feb. 13.

Owens led the Red Raiders with 7.7 rebounds per game as a sophomore in 1997-98 and paced the team again the following season with 7.0 boards per game. After sitting out last season with an ankle injury, Owens once again leads the team on the glass. He is currently averaging 7.3 rebounds and has led the team in 13 games. Five times he has garnered game-high honors.

The Kansas State loss was on a Sunday.
TECH GETS FIRST WIN OVER RANKED OPPONENT IN TWO YEARS
