LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior pitcher Amanda Renfro entered elite company this past weekend with her efforts at the Capital Classic in Sacramento, Calif., joining a select few pitchers in the categories of career innings pitched and career strikeouts.
In the opening game of the tourney versus 13th-ranked Iowa, Renfro struck out the 1,000 batter of her career. Heading into this season, only 10 pitchers in NCAA Division I history had 1,000 career strikeouts.
In the tournament championship game, also against Iowa, Renfro threw in her 1,000 inning, joining 15 others in Division I history with 1,000 innings pitched.
Even more impressive is that only four other pitchers in NCAA D-I history have their names on both lists. Courtney Blades (1997-2000, Southern Miss and Nicholls State), Michele Granger (1989-93, Cal-Berkeley), Sarah Dawson (1994-97, UL-Monroe) and Shawn Andaya (1984-87, Texas A&M) are the other four members of the elite 1K-1K club in Division I history.
Renfro and the Red Raiders open conference action this weekend with a pair of contests at Oklahoma State, taking on the Cowgirls at 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday at Cowgirl Stadium. Tech takes on Texas A&M on Wednesday, March 28, at its new complex, Rocky Johnson Field.
