LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech men's basketball coach Bob Knight announced today that Pat Knight has been named to the Red Raider coaching staff. Knight's responsibilities include on-court coaching and recruiting. Knight joins Bob Beyer and Les Fertig on the Texas Tech staff.
"I couldn't be happier with these guys," Knight said. "We have the same beliefs in what we want to accomplish. They know how to work in the type of program I run.
"I had this staff set long before I was contacted by Texas Tech," Knight added. "This is the group I wanted when the opportunity to coach came around again."
Knight joins his father's staff for the second time. He was an assistant at Indiana from 1998-00. Knight recently served as an assistant at the University of Akron for a season.
A four-year letterwinner for the Hoosiers, Knight graduated from Indiana in 1995 with a degree in sports management. Following graduation, Knight began a one-year stint as a college scout for the Phoenix Suns.
He began his coaching career in September 1996, joining the staff of the Connecticut Pride of the Continental Basketball Association as an assistant coach. After a season with the Pride, Knight took over the head coaching duties of the Wisconsin Blast of the International Basketball Association.
Knight spent two seasons on his father's staff at Indiana. He was responsible for on- and off-campus recruiting, practice and game preparation and the summer basketball camp program.
