Women's Tennis Splits In Oklahoma

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team split matches this past weekend against Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. The Red Raiders fell to the Cowboys on Saturday, March 31, 7-0. On Sunday, April 1, Tech snapped a seven-match losing streak against the Sooners, 4-3.
The loss against OSU was the first time this season Tech was blanked by an opponent. Each match went straight sets.
Head Coach Virginia Brown had her first victory against Oklahoma. The Red Raiders fell last year to the Sooners, 8-1 at home.
In doubles action, Tech earned the first point with Beverly Dawson and Sonnia Orellana winning in position No.1 and Barbara Schraml and Kendall Brooks taking position No. 3. Schraml and Brooks have won four out of its last five matches.
Sophomore Beverly Dawson competed in position No. 2 for the second time this season and snapped a two-match losing streak by defeating Melissa Mendieta in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0. She improves to 6-7 overall and 4-6 in league play.
Tech earned its final two points of the match in the No. 5 and 6 positions. It was the first time in the bottom two positions the Red Raiders have won in five matches, since hosting Colorado at home, March 4.
Kendall Brooks defeated Tiffany Streeter in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 in position No. 5. Brooks snapped a nine match losing streak against Streeter and won her first conference match of her career. On court No. 6 Dana Giles defeated Joni Helleland in three-sets, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3. She improved her record to 4-5 overall and 3-5 in Big 12 action.
The Red Raiders return to action this Thursday, April 5 in College Station, Texas, to battle Texas A&M at 5 p.m.
