COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Texas Tech Red Raider softball team got an unearned run in the third inning on a wild pitch, and Tech pitcher Amanda Renfro made it stand up for a 1-0 victory over Missouri Saturday afternoon.
Tech got on the board in the second after Andrea Joachims singled to right. The ball was booted in right by Missouri's Heather Allister, allowing Joachims to move to second on the play. Joachims went to third on a passed ball, and later scored on a wild pitch.
Neither team threatened the rest of the way, as both starters, Renfro for Texas Tech (29-18, 7-6 Big 12) and Stephanie Falk for Missouri (25-23, 4-8), controlled the contest. Renfro (26-15) allowed just one hit, a bunt single to start the game by Sara Vassmer, and struck out three in going the distance. She also got some good defensive play from shortstop Rebecca Eimen and left fielder Eva Harshman.
Joachims had two of Tech's three hits, and Sandy Butler had the other.
Falk (20-16) struck out five and allowed just three hits in taking the loss, allowing an unearned run.
The two teams conclude the series Sunday at 1 p.m. at University Field on the MU campus, weather permitting, as the forecast calls for a 70 percent chance of rain in the Columbia area.
