LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech seniors Amanda Renfro and Sandy Butler were both named First Team All-Midwest Region on Wednesday, the second all-region honor for both players in their career in the Red and Black.
Renfro, from Houston, Texas, heads into this weekend's NCAA tourney regional in Tucson, Ariz., with a 32-17 record with a 1.04 earned-run-average. The Lutheran North High School product broke the Big 12 record for strikeouts in a season, and stands at 395 for the season. Renfro earned second team all-region honors last season.
Butler is returning home for this year's regional, having attended Santa Rita High School in Tucson. Butler made First Team All-Region as a freshman in 1998, and earned Second Team All-America that season.
The 5-4 senior won her fourth team batting title this season, posting a .369 average, including .415 in Big 12 play. She has a .411 on-base percentage with 62 hits and a team-leading 26 runs scored.
The Midwest Region is made up of teams from three conferences, the Big 12, the Sun Belt and the Missouri Valley.
The Red Raiders open NCAA tourney play Thursday with a noon contest against 10th-ranked Cal St.-Fullerton at Hillenbrand Stadium on the campus of the University of Arizona.
