TUCSON, Ariz. - Texas Tech dropped a 8-0 decision to top-ranked and No. 1 seed Arizona in six innings in Region I NCAA play Friday night at Hillenbrand Stadium on the University of Arizona campus, as the Wildcats scored twice in the second and four in the third to take control early and stay undefeated in the regional.
The Wildcats got on the board in the second when Lindsay Collins singled softly to left and Mackenzie Vandergeest lined a homer over the wall in leftcenter for a 2-0 UA lead.
Arizona added to the lead in the third on a Jenny Finch double and a three-run homer down the leftfield line by Collins, a ball that cleared the 200 foot sign in left by some 75 to 100 feet for a 6-0 UA advantage. The homer ended the day for Tech starter Maggie Ayres, who allowed six runs in six hits with two walks.
Eva Harshman broke up Finch's no-hit bid with a blooper into short center in the third, and Carmen Grindell reached on an infield hit in the fourth.
The Wildcats plated another run in the fifth on a single to center by Lauren Bauer, scoring Allison Andrade. Vandergeest drove in the final run with a double to center, plating Toni Mascarenas.
