Texas Tech Announces 2001 Volleyball Schedule

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball program unveiled its 2001 schedule today that will include matches against seven teams that participated in the 2000 NCAA Women's Volleyball Championships.
Texas Tech, fresh off a 2000 NCAA Tournament appearance, will kick-off the 2001 campaign in Salt Lake City, Utah Aug 31- Sept. 1 in the Utah Invitational hosted by the University of Utah. Texas Tech will be eager for the rematch with Utah as the Utes knocked Texas Tech out of the NCAA Tournament last year 3-2. Georgia Tech (a 2000 NCAA Tournament team) and Rhode Island will complete the four-team field at the Utah Invitational.
The Red Raiders will open the 2001 home season with a match against in-state rival TCU on Sept 4 in the United Spirit Arena. Tech will then play host to the annual Four Points Sheraton/Red Raider Classic Sept. 7-8 with Stephen F. Austin, UTEP, Lamar and Ohio University making up the five-team field.
Texas Tech will open the 2001 Big 12 Conference season at home against arch-rival Texas at 7 p.m. on Sept. 12 and will be looking for its third-straight win over the Longhorns. Tech will travel to Nebraska on Sept. 15 for a 7 p.m. match with the defending national champion Nebraska Cornhuskers. Tech will host the Huskers at United Spirit Arena on Oct. 20 at 7p.m.
Tech will play a home and home match with four other Big 12 teams that made the NCAA Tournament field in Missouri, Kansas State (2000 Sweet 16), Colorado and Texas A&M.
