LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball team will complete its first week of two-a-day workouts with a uniform scrimmage at 7 p.m. on Friday night. The scrimmage will be held in the practice gym at the United Spirit Arena and the public is invited to attend.
The Red Raiders have been busy over the last week in preparations for the 2001 season that gets underway on Aug. 31 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Texas Tech will compete in the Utah Tournament hosted by the University of Utah Aug. 31 - Sept. 1. The Red Raiders will face 25th ranked Georgia Tech in the first match of the season and will conclude the tournament with a rematch against 21st ranked Utah on Saturday. Utah eliminated Texas Tech from the NCAA Tournament in Honolulu, Hawaii last season in a close match that went five games.
"I am really proud of where we are right now as a team," said Texas Tech head coach Jeff Nelson. "The girls are really working hard and they came into camp in great shape. Our freshmen are really challenging our older players and that is making each practice very competitive. Hopefully, on Friday we will be able to get a better look at how we stand right now."
