LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech University Director of Athletics Gerald Myers announced today that Texas Tech has reached an agreement to play Stephen F. Austin State University in a football game on Sat., Nov. 24, at Jones SBC Stadium in Lubbock. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. (CT).
The game will replace the game with UTEP that was cancelled on Sept. 13 after the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
"We've played Stephen F. Austin in other sports and are excited to face them on the football field," Myers said. "We're excited about playing another in-state institution and look forward to providing our fans and Stephen F. Austin's fans in East Texas a great football game."
The game against the I-AA Lumberjacks can count toward bowl eligibility if necessary, according to Myers. Should Texas Tech need a sixth win to become bowl eligible, then the game can count toward making that possible.
The Nov. 24 game will be the first meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.
Ticket information for the game will be released at a later date.
