LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Junior Tiffany Harrington hit her second career homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning Friday morning at the Dessert Breeze softball complex in Las Vegas, Nev., as Tech fell to the second ranked UCLA Bruins 13-2 in the opening game of the UNLV Softball Classic.
UCLA (10-0) jumped out on Tech early scoring five runs in the home half of the first inning, added two more in the second and six in the third en route to a 13-0 lead. In the first three innings the Bruins hit four homeruns all with runners on base.
Tech (3-8) got five hits from five different players but never really got things going until the top of the fifth. In that inning the Red Raiders got a pinch hit single from Britney Stolle followed by Harrington's homer to straight away center field. With two outs Esmerelda Perez added a third hit in the inning on an infield single but that would be all the damage Tech could do.
With the loss freshman Jennifer Vaught's record drops to 2-2 on the season. Tech will next play #4 LSU this evening in the second game of the tournament.
