LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech baseball program will pay homage to its past as the Red Raiders will celebrate Turn Back The Clock Night on Friday night in the first game of a three-game Big 12 series with the Missouri Tigers.
The Red Raiders will flashback to the year 1926 when Texas Tech fielded its first baseball team and will wear replica uniforms from that season. The uniform tops are solid gray with TECH running down the buttons while the pants are solid gray featuring the vintage relaxed style.
The Missouri Tigers are also expected to participate in the "Turn Back The Clock Night" as they plan to flash back to 1952.
Tech baseball fans will be treated to a special performance of the Star Spangled Banner that will be performed by the Singing Plainsmen. The Singing Plainsmen are based here in Lubbock and are locally known for their Barbershop renditions.
Take Me Out To the Ballgame, a seventh-inning stretch tradition, will be presented in a special live performance by two mystery guests. The mystery guests have strong ties to Texas Tech athletics and the baseball program.
Texas Tech Head Coach Larry Hays will also try to make some history of his own on Friday night as he tries to become just the fourth-ever coach in the history of NCAA Division I baseball to win 1,300 games in his career. Hays is just one win shy of the 1,300 mark as he is 1,299-698-3 in his 32-year career as a head baseball coach.
The replica uniforms were made possible thanks to a cash donation by the Tech Hecklers, an official booster club of Red Raider baseball. The uniforms were purchased at a cost of over $3,000.
Tickets for the weekend series are currently on sale at the Texas Tech Athletic Ticket Office. Tickets can be purchased in person or by calling 806-742-TECH or 1-888-GOBIG12.
