Tech Comes Up Short, 7-2

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Texas Tech softball team was unable to complete the 3-game sweep of New Mexico as it dropped the final game, 7-2, Wednesday afternoon at Lobo Field in Albuquerque, N.M.
With two outs in the top of the seventh centerfielder Esmerelda Perez hit a double to left-center that scored Andrea Joachims and Britney Stolle for the lone runs that Tech (10-15) would score.
UNM (5-9-1) scored three runs in the second, one in the third and never looked back en route to its fifth win of the season.
Trailing 7-0 heading into the final inning of play the Red Raiders never had a runner past second. Joachims led off the inning with a single, with one out Stolle recorded her third hit in as many at-bats to set up Perez's double.
Junior Maggie Ayres when 3.1 innings in a losing effort, dropping her record to 1-3 on the season. Amie Stines entered the game in relief of Ayres to close out the game allowing two hits while striking out three.
Tech will have this weekend off before heading to Fullerton, Calif., to play in the Kia Klassic on Mar. 13-17.
