LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Athletic Department has slated Friday night as "Operation Sellout" as the Red Raiders will face the Oklahoma Sooners in the first game of a crucial three-game Big 12 series at Dan Law Field. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
Texas Tech will be searching for its first sellout of Dan Law Field since April 15, 2000 when Texas Tech hosted the Texas Longhorns. Seating capacity at Dan Law Field is 5,050 and fans are encouraged to purchase tickets early through the Texas Tech Athletic Ticket Office at 742-TECH.
One lucky fan will be rewarded on Friday night as the Big 12 Conference and the athletic department will give away the use of a luxury suite at the Ballpark in Arlington for the upcoming Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Tournament in Arlington, Texas. The Big 12 Tournament will take place May 22-26 and is being hosted by the Texas Rangers. This year's event will mark the first time that the baseball tournament has been held in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Fans will participate in a contest in which one lucky Red Raider will be singled out from a designated section to win the grand prize.
Texas Tech senior shortstop Gera Alvarez will attempt to make school history on Friday night as he needs just one hit in Friday's game to tie the Tech record for a consecutive game hitting streak. Alvarez has hit safely in 28 games and is just one away from tying Keith Ginter's school record of 29 games that he set back in 1997.
Other festivities scheduled for Friday night include the Texas Tech Federal Credit Union/Texas Tech Alumni Association Senior Cookout and a special tribute to the Tech Hecklers. The senior cookout will reward 300 graduating seniors with a special dinner that will be held in the grass area located just inside the entrance to Dan Law Field. Tickets for the cookout must be picked up at the Merket Alumni Association by Friday afternoon at 5 p.m.
Numerous other giveaways such as a Big 12 baseball jacket, two Big 12 baseball sweatshirts and numerous gift certificates will be given away during Saturday and Sunday's games.
