Andrew Morris shines in MLB Debut

The righty tossed three innings of one-run ball to become the 43rd Red Raider all-time to make his MLB debut
TORONTO – After being taken in the Fourth Round of the 2022 MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins, former Texas Tech RHP Andrew Morris made his MLB Debut Sunday afternoon for the Minnesota Twins in the series finale in Toronto against the Blue Jays.
Morris who was called up Saturday by Minnesota, became the 43rd all-time former Tech Baseball player to make his MLB debut and the 13th Red Raider since 2022.
Entering with the Twins up 8-1 in the fifth, Morris tossed three innings of one-run ball, striking out two. He did not walk a batter and averaged 96.7 MPH with his four-seam fastball and 96.2 MPH with his sinker. Morris threw as hard as 98 MPH during his debut.
Rated the Twins No. 13 prospect, Morris held the defending AL Champs (Toronto) to an expected batting average of just .235 and an expecting slugging percentage of .288. Morris did not allow a barreled ball and carried an expected ERA of 1.86 for his outing.
Morris landed 50 of his 67 pitches for strikes.
Originally projected to make his MLB Debut a season ago before losing six weeks to a forearm strain, Morris made 68 career minor league appearances and made 62 career starts. He struck out 307 batters in 320 total innings and went 22-13 with one save during his MiLB career.
Morris went 8-2 in his lone season with the Scarlet and Black, striking out 91 batters in 88.1 innings pitched. Morris was named a Second Team All-Big 12 selection after transferring to Texas Tech from Colorado Mesa where he was a D-II All-American.
