Red Raiders Prepare To Host Baylor Bears

RED RAIDERS HOST BAYLOR IN BIG 12 FINALE
The Texas Tech Red Raiders will host the Baylor Bears this weekend in the regular season finale for both teams as the they will tangle in a three-game set at Dan Law Field. Texas Tech enters the weekend with an overall record of 37-16 and 13-11 mark in the Big 12 and is currently riding a season-high 12-game win streak. The Bears come to Lubbock with an overall mark of 34-19 and 13-10 record in league play and are on a two-game losing skid. The winner of the series between Texas Tech and Baylor will likely finish either second or third and will have improved that team's chances of serving as a host for the NCAA Regionals coming up at the end of May.
The overall series between Texas Tech and Baylor is extremely tight as Tech leads Baylor by just one game 57-56. The Red Raiders also own a 9-8 advantage over Baylor since the two teams began playing in the Big 12 Conference in 1997. The 9-8 record includes both regular season and Big 12 Tournament games. The Red Raiders have been pretty successful against the Bears over the last decade as Tech has won eight of the last 10 regular-season meetings. Of those eight regular-season series wins, Texas Tech has recorded three sweeps with the last sweep coming in 2000 when the Bears last visited Lubbock.
The Bears enter the weekend in third place in the Big 12 and has an unofficial RPI ranking of No. 20. Texas Tech is currently in fifth place in the league standings and has an unofficial RPI of No. 28.
Texas Tech has two promotions on tap for this weekend as the athletic department will host High School Night on Friday and Koozie Night on Saturday. High school students can receive two admissions for the price of one on Friday while the first 500 fans will receive a free Texas Tech koozie on Saturday. On Sunday, Texas Tech will honor its 2002 senior class in a pregame ceremony.

LUBBOCK, Texas. - Freshman Madison Edwards went 3-for-6 with five RBI and two runs scored to pace the Texas Tech Red Raiders to a 14-2 win over the Texas-Pan American Broncs on Sunday afternoon at Dan Law Field. With today's win, the Red Raiders also record the series sweep and is the third sweep in a row for Texas Tech. Texas Tech improves to 37-16 on the season and is riding a 12-game win streak that is the longest streak since the Red Raiders won 14-straight back in 1996. Texas-Pan American completed its season today and finishes the 2002 season with an overall record of 15-38.
Texas-Pan American jumped on the board in the top of the first when third baseman Adam Farek laced an RBI single to left field that plated Jerome McCoy. Senior catcher Willie Durazo tied the game in Tech's half of the first when he got an RBI single that plated freshman right fielder Madison Edwards from second. Edwards reached on a stand-up double that bounced off the right field wall with one out in the inning.
Texas Tech took a 7-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning as the Red Raiders got four hits including triples from Willie Durazo and Nick Blankenship. Madison Edwards deliv-ered the biggest hit of the inning when go a two-RBI single with two outs. Madison Edwards pushed Tech's lead to 10-1 in the bottom of the fifth when he connected on his second home run of the season when launched a three run shot over the left field fence.
Bryon Smith and Austin Cranford each hit home runs in the sixth and eighth to give the Red Raiders a 13-2 lead. Gera Alvarez picked up his second hit of the game when he drove a two-out double down the left field line plating Bryon Smith from second. Dusty Buck picked up the win for Texas Tech and has now won four consecutive games. Buck pitched five innings and gave up two earned runs on six hits. Justin Bogy suffered the loss for Texas-Pan American after giving up 10 earned runs on 11 hits.
