Tech Wins Home Opener, 3-1, Over Clemson

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball team opened its home schedule and the Four Points Sheraton/Red Raider Classic with a 3-1 (28-30, 30-21, 30-26, 30-20) win over the Clemson Tigers Saturday night.
With the games tied at one, Tech (4-3) battled back from an 18-10 deficit to knot the score at 26, then won the last four points of the game to take a 2-1 lead in the match. The win marked the first time this season that the Red Raiders came back to win after trailing when the opponent reached 20 points first.
Clemson (4-5) pulled out the game of the match as Lori Anderson led the Tiger's offense with five kills. Senior Melissa McGehee (Kerrville, Texas) recorded five kills of her own to go with five digs.
Down 1-0, Tech held the Tigers to a .000 hitting percentage in the second game and hit .371 led by Ann Romjue's (Papillion, Neb.) five kills. Sophomore Angela Mooney (Lubbock, Texas) led Tech, as she hit .667 and was one of four Red Raiders to record four or more kills in the game.
McGehee recorded her third double-double of the season with 21 kills and 11 digs while sophomore Kelly Johnson (Fort Worth, Texas) had 20 kills and a team-high 13 digs for her second double-double of the season. Romjue would finish the match with 10 kills and 11 digs for her first double-double of the season.
The Red Raiders used the momentum of winning the second and third games to take control of the fourth and final game en route to a 30-20 win.
