This past weekend, we got our first opportunity to play at home, and for the most part it was a great experience. As you all know, we hosted Clemson and Arizona State at our Four Points Sheraton tournament. We were ready to get on the winning side after a poor showing at UNLV. We started off playing Clemson. Our team was pumped going into the match, but you couldn't tell after losing the first game to them. By the second game, we had had enough and decided to kick a little Clemson you know what. We ended up winning in four games, and everyone had great performances and did an awesome job contributing their part.
On Sunday we played Arizona State. This team is a really good team, they are strong in most every position, and they play with consistency and confidence when they step on the floor. We scouted them the day before, and we knew right away that we were better than them. The key was to attack in the beginning and overpower them with our own confidence to win. We did a great job with our attack for the first two games, but unfortunately we got a little too comfortable, and they beat us in 5 games. This match was extremely disappointing because for one we lost on our home court, and two we let a team that we should have beat slip away from us.
When tournament play was over, we had to start preparing for our match against New Mexico State the following Tuesday. We ended up beating them in three exciting games, but I must say that I am a little disappointed in the way I am playing, although I am extremely excited at how well the team is playing as a whole.
Conference starts on Saturday against Iowa State, and we all know that schools in the Big 12 give us pretty good competition to say the least. I am definitely ready to start playing like I know how, and contribute my part to a great team who I feel will have a lot of success in the near future.
