Tech Opens Conference Action at Iowa State

?MES, Iowa - The Texas Tech volleyball team opens Big 12 Conference play this weekend against the Iowa State Cyclones and the hope of making a third-consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Tech (5-4, 0-0) swept the season series against the Cyclones last year and has not lost to ISU since the inception of the Big 12.
Iowa State (9-3, 0-1) opened its conference schedule with a loss to the Oklahoma Sooners last Wednesday.
Senior Melissa McGehee will look to become the Red Raiders all-time kills leader this weekend. The Kerrville, Texas, is just 13 kills shy of breaking Brande Brown's (1994-97) record of 1,083 kills in a career. The 5-9 outside hitter has also tallied a double-double in Tech's last four matches.
Sophomore Kelly Johnson has 42 kills and 16 digs combined in her last two contests, while senior Ann Romjue has 21 kills and 26 digs over the same span.
Last time out for the Red Raiders, Tech downed the New Mexico State Aggies, 3-0. Leading the offensive charge for the Red Raiders was junior Angela Mooney. For the match the Lubbock, Texas, native recorded 13 kills in 20 attempts with only one error for a .600 hitting percentage.
Tech will return home to the United Spirit Arena on Wednesday, Sept. 25, when the fifth ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers come to town for a 7 p.m. start time.
