I don't know about everyone else, but Conference opener was a big deal to me. HELLO!!! We are playing in the Big 12! Okay, my excitement may be the girl from the graduating class of 45 talking, but who cares?!? In my eyes, we are competing in what is disputably the best volleyball conference in the nation.
I believe with all my heart that we can come out on the better end of the conference if we play like we know how and how we played this weekend against Iowa State. It took us a minute to get into the game, but in the end, we had swept the Cyclones in three. The first game was slow, but we pulled out a 30-26 finish. The second was our pace and our game, ending in a 30-14 victory. The final was another close one with a 30-28 ending. It was a great start for us, and we plan on continuing the winning ways as we get deeper into conference play.
As for the traveling, I'm already sick of the plane rides, but I think van #3 would agree that it is way better than driving! I can sum up Iowa in one word: CORN. The trees and greenery reminded me of home, but I don't think I've ever seen that much corn; it's about like New York and the number of people.
It's not a big secret that this is my freshman year or that it was going to be entirely different. I know there are some in from my graduating class who want to go home; there are some who will go back and some who will stick it out. I miss home all the time, but I've come to the conclusion that if I can't be there, there is no other place I would rather be than in Lubbock, Texas, going to Texas Tech, and of course, playing volleyball. The older girls are all supportive, helpful, and very willing to correct our mistakes whether it is on or off the court. I figure it's better than any punishment that might come about and everyone can use a little constructive criticism to become better players. So I have to say "Thanks" to all of our upperclassmen.
As I said at the very beginning after signing with Tech "I would like to get some playing time, but I mostly want to be an asset even if it means that I have to root for the team from the bench." Don't get me wrong I plan to work my heart out to get more game time, but that doesn't mean I can't cheer my heart and lungs out until that time comes. The same goes for every other student here at Tech!!! You will get your chance this Wednesday as your own Red Raiders take on #5 Nebraska at 7:00 at the USA! I better see you there!!!
