LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball team will host its Annual Awards Banquet on Fri., Jan. 17, in the Banquet Room at the Four Points Sheraton on Ave. Q. Doors will open at 7 p.m. with dinner scheduled to begin at 7:30.
The 2002 season was a successful one for the Red Raiders as several members set individual school records while the team achieved a pair of milestone wins. As a program, Tech claimed its 675th victory on the opening weekend, while its sweep of New Mexico State in September was the program's 250th home win.
Senior Melissa McGehee became the program's all-time kills leader and just the fourth player to surpass the 1,000 kills/1,000 digs mark for a career. Senior Ann Romjue set a new single-match school record for digs in a game at home against Texas A&M, while sophomore Kelly Johnson broke the school record for kills in a match.
The season was a success off the court as well with six athletes being named to Academic All-Big 12 teams. McGehee, Johnson and Laura Grote were all selected to Verizon Academic All-America teams as well.
Tickets are $30 each and must be purchased in advance from Theresa Bowman in the Tech volleyball office at (806) 742-7545.
