LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech track and field teams continue to garner preseason rankings as four individuals and a relay team were selected as Trackwire Dandy Dozen Wednesday.
Sophomore Jonathan Johnson (Abilene, Texas), who broke several school records and earned four All-America honors as a freshman, was ranked fourth in the 800M. Sophomore Licretia Sibley (Fort Worth, Texas) was a two-time All-American during the indoor season as a freshman and is ranked 12th in the 400M, while the men's 4x400-meter relay is seventh.
A pair of newcomers to the Tech track program were also selected as Dandy Dozen in the pole vault. Sophomore Bobby Most (Laredo, Texas) ranks seventh, while senior Buster McLain (Gruver, Texas) checks in at ninth. Both McLain and Most came to Tech from Southwest Texas.
"This is very exciting," commented head track and field coach Wes Kittley. "We've got several athletes that are the cream-of-the-crop in their events. It just shows that our program is headed in the right direction."
The pole vaulters will open the 2003 season this weekend at the U.S. Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev., while the rest of the team will hit the track January 25 at the Red Raider Open.
