Vaulters Have Strong Showing at Summit

LUBBOCK, Texas - The 2003 track and field season got under way over the weekend as the pole vaulters headed West to compete at U.S. Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev.
Newcomers Buster McLain (Gruver, Texas) and Bobby Most (Laredo, Texas) each cleared 16-feet-10.75-inches as McLain took fourth and Most took fifth in their group. Jared Thornhill (Snyder, Texas) placed second in his flight as he cleared a personal-best of 16-8.75, Ken Wilson (Lewisville, Texas) took fourth in the same flight as he equaled a career-best 16-4.75. Freshman Seth Harris (Boyd, Texas) had a strong first meet as he cleared 15-7 in a fifth-place effort.
On the women's side, freshman Dana Rosenbladt (Manderville, La.) cleared 11-7.75 to set a new school record in the pole vault breaking the previous mark of 11-1.75 set by Bobbi Crill in 2000. Krista Grantham (New Braunfels, Texas) also faired well in her first collegiate meet as she placed fourth in her group, clearing 11-5.75.
The rest of the track team will see its first action this weekend as Tech hosts the Red Raider Open in the Athletic Training Center. Field events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with the running events getting started at 12:30 p.m.
