Wes Kittley earns his 17th Coach of the Year award
NEW ORLEANS – Head coach Wes Kittley and high jumper Temitope Adeshina were recognized Thursday afternoon with USTFCCCA regional honors. Kittley was named the Mountain Region Men's Coach of the Year, while Adeshina earned the Women's Field Athlete of the Year.
Kittley, who wrapped up his 27th season last weekend, takes home his 17th overall Coach of the Year honor and his 13th on the men's side. Back in May, Kittley led the Red Raiders to their second-straight Big 12 outdoor title, winning the meet by 26 points and producing two champions – Malachi Snow (110m hurdles) and Titus Kimaru (steeplechase). At the NCAA Outdoor Championships last weekend, Tech came away with three First Team All-Americans in Kimaru, Zaid Latif (long jump) and Jonathan Seremes (triple jump). The Red Raiders ranked as high as No. 2 this season with six weekly appearances in the top 10.
Adeshina brought her first national title in the high jump outdoors clearing 1.96m (6-5) for a season best and collegiate lead. The junior accomplished an undefeated season, clearing at least 1.90m (6-2 ¾) in three meets as she completed the season sweep of both indoor and outdoor NCAA titles. The honor is the fourth of her career and second one outdoors.
