Touchdown Club of Columbus Recognizes Kingsbury

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior quarterback Kliff Kingsbury (New Braunfels, Texas) has been named the winner of the Sammy Baugh Trophy, presented annually to the nation's top collegiate quarterback by the Touchdown Club of Columbus.
The Sammy Baugh Trophy will be presented Fri., Feb. 7, during the Touchdown Club's 48th Annual All-Sports Banquet in Columbus, Ohio.
Kingsbury produced 12,429 career passing yards, 95 touchdown passes and set NCAA career marks in completions (1,231), attempts (1,883), total offensive plays (2,156) and total offensive plays per game (50.1). He also set NCAA records in single-game completion percentage (83.05% vs. Texas A&M), single-season completions (479) and single-season total offensive plays (818).
Kingsbury led Texas Tech to its first bowl win since 1995 with a 55-15 victory over Clemson in the MAZDA Tangerine Bowl on Dec. 23. He threw for a bowl record 375 yards and had three touchdown passes, which earned him game MVP honors.
The list of past recipients for the award, which bears the name of the former NFL Hall of Fame quarterback who played at TCU and professionally with Washington, is impressive. In addition to Kingsbury, David Carr (Fresno State), Danny Wuerffel (Florida), Kerry Collins (Penn State), Vinny Testaverde (Miami), Steve Young (BYU), John Elway (Stanford) and Jim McMahon (BYU) are among former recipients. Former Texas Tech head football coach Steve Sloan (1975-77) won the award at Alabama in 1965.
