No. 31 Women's Cross Country To Compete At Regionals

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's cross country team continues its quest for a top ranking as they will run in the NCAA Mountain Regional Cross Country Championships in Riverdale, Utah, on Saturday. The team finished in fourth place at the Big 12 Championships for the team's best finish in school history with three runners finishing in the top 20.
Freshman Irene Kimaiyo will be one of Tech's top contenders as she is coming off a team best 12th place finish at the Championships with a time of 22:13.8, for her fifth top 20 appearance. Senior Tracie Akerhielm finished 13th at the Championships with a time of 22:16.3. Junior Brionne Yosten, finishing first for Tech in three meets on the season, ran for a 17th place finish with a time of 22:28.1.
Nationals will be held at the University of Northern Iowa in Waterloo, Iowa on November 24. The top two teams from each of the nine regional meets will advance while 13 more teams will be selected on an at large basis. These "bubble" teams will be selected on wins over teams already in the field and also head-to-head performance against other bubble teams.
The regional meet is hosted by Weber State University and will be run on the Schneiter's Riverside Golf Course. The women's 6K race is set to being at 12:15 p.m. Complete results can be found at www.runnercard.com.
