GETTING STARTED
- Texas Tech won the opening coin toss for just the fourth time this season and the first time on the road. Tech elected to receive the opening kickoff.
- Senior center Toby Cecil made his 48th consecutive start tonight. Cecil is a team captain and anchors an offensive line that has cut its sacks given up in half compared to last year.
- Tonight's game on Fox Sports Net marked the sixth time this season that the Red Raiders have been televised. The game against Texas was Tech's fifth league game on television and the Red Raiders will finish the 2003 Big 12 season having been televised six times. THE SYMONS WATCH
- Finished the day with 365 yards passing as he was32of 56 with3 touchdowns. He now needs 83 passing yards to break Tye Detmer's NCAA single-season passing record of 5,188 yards that he set back in 1990. He now has 5106 yards passing
- Symons' TD pass to Clay McGuire in the third quarter set a new Texas Tech and Big 12 record as he now has 46 touchdown passes on the season. He surpassed Kliff Kingsbury's record of 45 touchdown passes in 2002.
- With 361 yards of total offense tonight, BJ Symons has broken the Texas Tech single-season mark of 4,093 yards set by Kliff Kingsbury in 2002. Symons came into the game with 4,859 yards of total offense and now has 5220. He now ranks second on the NCAA single-season total offense list trailing David Klingler's mark of 5,221 back in 1990.
NOTING THE OFFENSE
- Sophomore running back Taurean Henderson scored the first points of the game when he scored on a five yard run with 9:22 remaining in the first quarter. The rushing TD was his was his sixth of the season. Henderson scored again with 9:10 remaining in the game giving him his seventh rushing TD of the year.
- Mickey Peters 14-yard touchdown reception with 55 seconds remaining in the third quarter places him in a second place tie (with Lloyd Hill and Wes Welker) on the Texas Tech career touchdown reception list with 20. The TD reception was his ninth of the year. Peters also caught a 19-yard pass late in the first half.
- Tech went for a two-point conversion late in the second half to make up for a blocked extra point on the first scoring drive of the game. Symons connected with Nehemiah Glover for the conversion making Tech 2-for-3 on the year. Both of Tech's previous two-point conversions came in the game against Mississippi.
- Wes Welker's first reception of the game extended his streak to 45 straight games with a pass reception.
- Clay McGuire picked up his second career touchdown reception with 10:42 remaining in the third quarter. The TD reception was just his eighth pass reception of the entire season.
NOTEBOOK
- Vincent Meeks recorded his fourth interception of the season in the third quarter. The interception was the seventh of his career.
- Junior cornerback Jamaal Jackson picked up his first career interception with just under 14 minutes remaining in the game. The interception was the 16th of the season by the Tech defensive unit tying last season mark of 16 INT's.
- Texas Tech has a record of 11-2 against teams from the State of Texas since 2001. Both losses coming from Texas (2001 & 2003).
