HOUSTON, Texas - The Texas Tech Red Raiders arrived in Houston on Christmas Day and had their first official workout and bowl function today (Friday) as part of the 2003 Houston Bowl festivities.
The Red Raiders hit the practice field today at the Houston Texans practice facility which is located directly across the street from Reliant Stadium. Tech practiced for about two hours today and will practice again on Saturday. The team received a special visit from former Red Raider defensive standout and current member of the Houston Texans Marcus Coleman. Coleman stopped by after his practice with the Texans to watch his former team up close. The Texans are preparing for a Sunday showdown at home against Indianapolis (current team of former running back Ricky Williams). Following practice, players and coaches addressed the statewide media about the upcoming game.
The day concluded with the Houston Bowl Welcome Fest that was held at the Radisson Astrodome Hotel. Texas Tech and Navy were officially welcomed by the Houston Bowl Committee and the teams were fed a barbeque dinner. Following the dinner, players from both teams participated in a welcome fest skit (Texas Tech had 10 players participating including Kellen Tillman, Taurance Rawls and Brian Bishop).
Texas Tech will take on Navy at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 30th in the Fourth Annual Houston Bowl at Reliant Stadium. Tickets for the game are still on sale and can be purchased through the Tech Athletic Ticket office that has a bowl location being headquartered at the J.W. Marriott Hotel. The number to call is (713) 961-1500 and ask for the Texas Tech Bowl Ticket Office.
