Valdez Quits

Lubbock, TX - Nick Valdez has chosen to leave the Texas Tech basketball team.
Coach Knight told Valdez that the way the players felt would decide Nick's status on the team. Some players wanted to keep Valdez on the squad, while other players did not. Ultimately, they asked that he be given one last chance to remain on the team.
Coach Knight asked Nick if he was interested in remaining on the team and regaining the respect of his teammates and those around the game.
Nick said, "Yes."
Coach Knight then said Nick would be given a last chance with stipulations. Coach Knight explained the stipulations included fulfilling all his academic responsibilities and following the established team policies. He also would run sprints for changing room assignments at Iowa State and for other violations of team policies. If any further irresponsible behavior occurred, he then would be dismissed from the team.
After hearing this, Valdez answered, "I'm going to leave."
Players and coaches consider the matter closed.
