Lady Raiders shut out Lady Cyclones

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Women's Tennis team had a successful match, coming away with their first win of the season against Iowa State. The Lady Raiders played with the absence of their number two player, Anchen Lombard, who was out due to illness.
All six singles matches were victorious for the team. Barbara Schraml moved up to the number six position, playing her first match since shoulder surgery. Irina Tereschenko defeated Sabrina Evers 6-1, 6-3. Beverly Dawson defeated Kristen Kyaki 4-6, 6-1, 10-6. Tara Browning defeated Tara Goedjen 6-3, 7-6, 7-3. Kendall Brooks defeated Eve Soriano 6-2, 6-2. Katja Kovacic defeated Beth Shermel 6-1, 6-1. Barbara Schraml defeated Suzanne Rutten 3-6, 6-3, 10-4.
The doubles tandem of Irina Tereschenko/Beverly Dawson defeated Evers/ Rutten 8-3. Tara Browning/Kendall Brooks defeated Goedjen/Gyaki 8-3. The only loss of the day came from the doubles match of Schraml/Kovacic who were defeated by Soriano/Shermel 8-6.
The women's tennis team returns to action at home February 25 for a match against Abilene Christian University at 1 p.m.
