- Texas Tech's victory snapped Texas' 13-game winning streak in the series. UT entered tonight's game winning 28 of the last 35 meetings with Texas Tech dating back to the 1988-89 season. The two teams have met once in Big 12 Tournament play. Texas defeated Texas Tech, 86-83, in first round action of the 1998 conference tournament. Texas fell to 4-1 in Big 12 Tournament quarterfinal games during the Rick Barnes. Tonight was Rick Barnes' first loss to Texas Tech in 11 games. It marks only the third time Barnes has lost to an in-state foe in 42 games, and snapped an 11-game winning streak over in-state opponents. Tonight's loss marks only the second time Texas Tech has defeated Texas since the formation of the Big 12 Conference.
- Seventh-seeded Texas Tech is the lowest seed to win multiple games in the history of the tournament. Last year TTU did it as the No. 5 seed. It was the third win for the lower seed in the 2003 Big 12 Tournament. In the first year of the tournament four lower-seeds won in the tournament, which is an all-time tournament best. Today's Texas loss marks the fourth time (1997, 1998, 1999, 2003) the No. 2 seed has fallen in its first game of the Big 12 Tournament.
- Texas and Oklahoma are the only two Big 12 schools to receive first-round byes the last five seasons.
- Texas Tech outscored Texas 31-17 to build Tech's largest lead of the half-20 points. Andre Emmett hit a free throw with 2:19 remaining in the first half to give TTU a 48-28 lead. Texas' only lead in the first half was 2-0 at the 19:22 mark. UT's 20-point first-half deficit was its largest this season.
- Texas' 18-point halftime deficit was its largest of the nine games it trailed at halftime this season. OSU had a 47-33 halftime lead over Texas Feb. 21, 2003.
- Texas Tech went until the 4:21 mark in the first half before turning the ball over. The Red Raiders had two first-half turnovers.
- Seven of TTU's 21 first-half rebounds were off the offensive glass. TTU outscored Texas 11-2 on second-chance points in the first half.
- Texas Tech hit five three pointers (three by Nathan Doudney) in the first 6:50 of the first half, jumping to a 25-11 lead. Tech grabbed 12 of the 15 rebounds in the game. Texas Tech made a season-high 10 three-pointers in the game.
- Texas' bench scored 11 of its 32 first-half points. UT's five starters were 8-of-23 (.348) from the field in the first half, while the three reserves were 5-of-8 (.625).
- Texas opened the second half with a 10-4 run. Texas Tech led by as many as 19 points in the second half (12:35). Texas went on a 9-0 run to cut it to 10. Texas outscored Texas Tech 11-5 in a span of 1:27 to cut the margin to six points (80-74) with 3:37 left. After that, Texas made just two of their final seven field goal attempts. Texas Tech was 8-of-9 from the free throw line in the final 3:33.
- Texas outscored Texas Tech 44-28 in the paint.
- Texas is 6-6 when its opponent scores at least 70 points this season.
- Texas Tech outrebounded Texas, 42-39, marking only the fifth time this season the Longhorns were outrebounded.
- Tonight's game marks only the sixth time in 27 games that Texas held its opponent to under 50 percent field goal shooting and lost. Texas Tech shot 49.2 percent (31-of-63) from the field.
- Texas Tech is one of four Texas opponents to score 90 points or more.
- Texas Tech held Texas' leading scorer, T.J. Ford, to six first-half points on 2-of-8 field goal shooting. Texas' second-leading scorer Brandon Mouton, scored only two points on 1-of-4 field goal shooting.
- Texas Tech's Nathan Doudney tallied career highs for points (17), field goals (6) and three-point goals made (5)--all in the first half. Doudney finished the game with a career bests in field goals (8), points (25) and three-pointers (7). Doudney's seven three-pointers was the most scored by a Texas Tech player this season.
- TTU's Kasib Powell grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds.
- Texas Tech's Andre Emmett set a season high with 11 rebounds. His 12 field goals made tied a Big 12 Conference tournament record.
- Texas Tech's Will Chavis fouled out of a game for the first time this year.
- UT's Brian Boddicker pulled down a season-high 10 rebounds. It marks only the second time in 95 career games that the junior grabbed 10 or more rebounds.
- UT's T.J. Ford has recorded 34 assists against six turnovers in his last four contests.
- Third-ranked Texas is the highest rank team Texas Tech has beaten since a 64-63 win at #2 SMU on January 26, 1985.
- Kasib Powell's triple-double in the first in Phillips 66 Big 12 history and the third this season. Colorado sophomore David Harrison has the other two triple doubles this season. It is the seventh triple double in Big 12 history.
- This marks the third Phillips 66 Big 12 Tournament in which two lower than No. 4 seeds will be in playing in the semifinals. In 1997 No. 10 Missouri and No. 6 Oklahoma were in the semifinals and in 1999 No. 5 Oklahoma State and No. 7 Kansas State advanced to the seminfinals. Missouri in 1997 and Oklahoma State in 1999 each lost to Kansas in the championship games.
