LUBBOCK, Texas - Senior Beverly Dawson won both her singles match and doubles match with partner Irina Tereschenko, but it was not enough to propel the Lady Raiders past Texas, as they fell to the Longhorns, 5-2, Monday afternoon at the McLeod Tennis Center.
Dawson and Tereschenko produced a win at the first doubles slot, but Texas took both the number two and three slots to take the doubles point and give the Longhorns an early 1-0 lead in the match. The pair defeated the Texas tandem of Kendra Strohm and Ziva Grasic 8-5.
In singles competition, freshman Tara Browning defeated Texas' Lindsay Blau, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, to take the number five singles match and Dawson defeated Kelly Baritat in the number two match, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (5). Texas won matches number one, three , four and six in strait sets to post the final score of 5-2 drop Tech's record to 2-7 on the year.
Lady Raider tennis will be back in action on Friday, March 28, when they host the Nebraska Cornhuskers at the McLeod Tennis Center at 11 a.m.
