Lubbock, Texas - Texas Tech Athletic Director Gerald Myers announced today the promotion of Nancy Todd from interim head coach to head coach of the Red Raider Volleyball program. Todd replaces Jeff Nelson whom she served under as both an associate head coach and assistant head coach over the past eight seasons.
"I am very excited about being able to promote a coach of Nancy's background and experience from within," commented Myers. "Our volleyball program has been very successful and made the NCAA Tournament five times over the past eight years and she has been a big part of that success. She is a strong recruiter and has a solid background of coaching at this level."
Before being named associate head coach at the start of the 2002 season, Todd had been an assistant coach at Tech since 1995.
"I am excited about the opportunity to coach at a school in a conference like the Big 12," said Todd. "[The team] is really working hard in practice in preparation for our tournaments at TCU and UTA this spring and I know the girls are looking forward to the fall season and raising their level."
Todd is no stranger to the college game. Prior to being named assistant coach at Tech in 1995, she was an outstanding player at Arizona State University. The 1993 ASU Team Capitan was named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman Team in 1991 and helped lead the Sun Devils team to three post season berths during her tenure. In addition to collegiate volleyball, Todd also has played 2-on-2 beach volleyball and has coached at the club and International levels. Todd becomes the fifth coach of the Red Raiders in the programs 27-year history.
