Red Raiders Rebound With 5-4 Win Over Kansas

LUBBOCK, Texas - Senior Scooter Jordan went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI to lead the Texas Tech Red Raiders to a 5-4 win over the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday afternoon at Dan Law Field.
Texas Tech (23-14; 5-8) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second as Tech pounded out five hits in the inning. Junior first baseman Doug Beck drove in the first run with a single up the middle and Scooter Jordan scored him with another RBI single straight up through the center. Madison Edwards picked up an RBI single and Sean Alexander got an RBI sacrifice fly to help Tech extend its lead.
Kansas (27-15; 3-8) got on the board in the fourth on an RBI sacrifice from Matt Tribble that plated Ryan Baty who doubled as the leadoff hitter.
The Jayhawks cut Tech's lead to two in the sixth when Casey Spanish delivered an RBI single to right field scoring Ritchie Price.
The Red Raiders tacked on a much needed insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Scooter Jordan laced an RBI double into left-center field scoring Doug Beck who led off the inning with a single.
Kansas pulled within one in the top of the eighth as the Jayhawks scored two runs on three hits.
Junior reliever Jeff Karstens, who replaced starter Dusty Buck in the seventh, held off the Jayhawks in the top of the ninth to pick up his sixth save of the season.
Senior Dusty Buck (2-1) earned the win for Texas Tech as he pitched six innings allowing two earned runs on six hits. Chris Smart (1-2) suffered the loss for Kansas in a complete game as he pitched all eight innings allowing 12 hits and five earned runs.
Texas Tech and Kansas will play the rubber match of the three-game series at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
